Fairtrade Fortnight – how you can help protect the future of the products you love

It’s that time of year again where we shine the spotlight on all things Fairtrade (27th Feb – 12th March) This year the focus of the campaign is on making small switches to support producers and help protect the future of some every day products we take for granted.

Did you know that in the future it might be more difficult to buy coffee, bananas and chocolate? Think about your morning without your regular brew or life without your favourite bendy yellow snack!

Climate change is sadly making it harder to grow crops like these and unfair practices through the supply chains mean that some communities are being forced to rethink their livelihoods.

It is, however, easy to make a few small swaps to support producers and help protect the future of farmers and growers around the world.

Lots of products can be Fairtrade, everything from sugar to tea and cotton to flowers. You can recognise them through the distinctive Yin/Yang logo. Just keep your eyes peeled when shopping.

Here’s some of the things you can buy here at Village Greens:

Coffee – Grumpy Mule, Café Direct

Chocolate – Seed & Bean, Cocoa Loco, Divine, Vego

Dried Mango

Vanilla Extract

Bananas

Meridian Molasses

Cocoa Powder – Suma, Equal Exchange

Clipper Tea

Sugar - Suma

If you’d like to find out more have a read of the Fairtrade Foundation website but in the meantime keep your eyes peeled for Fairtrade products and consider making a swap – it might just help to preserve the future of the things you love.
