Incredible Edible Prestwich and District - Find Out More!

Just before Christmas we welcomed Incredible Edible Prestwich and District to Village Greens for a pop-up stall. If you didn’t make it down we thought you might like to hear all about Incredible Edible and the work they do locally here in Prestwich and surrounding area.

Started in 2010, Incredible Edible Prestwich & District (IEPAD) was set up by a group of local people keen to develop a community approach to the growing and eating of locally produced food. Thee team are all volunteers and contribute in various ways, whether organising, gardening or helping at events. It all started by following the original Incredible Edible Group in Todmorden.

The ethos of the group is all about community, health and well being through eating better, mental health improvements by being outdoors and involved in therapeutic gardening activities and socialising with others with similar values. There’s lots of Incredible Edible projects going on in the local area including a forest garden in Prestwich Clough, fruit garden in Philips Park and sites in Radcliffe and Whitefield too. Find out more about these projects here.

At the end of last year, the team were selling lots of lovely homemade produce made with some of the locally grown ingredients including jams, chutneys and relish. Expert chutney maker, Susan has made loads of different types, all made here in Prestwich! With everything from apple and cinnamon jam to hot relish! The full list is here.

I bought a few jars as gifts and am now regretting passing them on as the apple and sultana chutney is absolutely gorgeous.

All jars are £3 and the funds go back into this wonderful community group. If you missed out before Christmas then get in touch with the team to see what’s left by emailing iepad.volunteers@gmail.com

And if you’ve still not got a 2021 calendar, the Incredible Edible calendar is packed with lovely photos of all things green! Just email iepad.volunteers@gmail.com or pick one up in Village Greens.

Of course at the moment activities are somewhat limited due to lockdown restrictions but the team are on hand if you'd like to get involved. If you are interested new volunteers are always welcome and you can sign up here.
